San Diego Bayfair couldn't take place each year if it wasn't for the support by hundreds of volunteers. To thank the volunteers for their support, the Board of Governors is hosting a barbecue on Saturday, May 18, at Santees Lakes Regional Park. The barbecue will also serve as the first of the volunteer meetings as the Board of Governors prepares to stage the 49th annual Bayfair, September 13-15.
After San Diego Mayor Bob Filner signed an operating agreement with the Tourism Marketing District on April 25 that will start the flow of much-needed marketing dollars to support events. San Diego Bayfair has been a benefactor of Tourism Marketing District funding, money that is raised by a 2 percent charge on hotel room rates within the district.
The H1 Unlimited season gets off to an early start this year with the tour making its debut in Sacramento, Calif., with the Big Wake Weekend May 31-June 2. The hydroplanes will race on Folsom Lake outside of Sacramento, marking a return to Northern California since the late 1960s It's one of two new stops added to the schedule by H1 Unlimited.
